How does Qumuna support moderation, safety, and privacy?
By Qumuna Editorial Team · Reviewed by Qumuna Product Review
Qumuna provides role-based access, reporting and moderation tools, and published product policies; each community remains responsible for its own rules, membership decisions, safeguarding process, and emergency response.
Short answer: Qumuna helps communities organize access and respond to reported content through roles, moderation views, removal and reinstatement tools, and published privacy and safety information. Those tools do not replace local rules, trained judgment, lawful safeguarding duties, or an emergency response plan.
What moderation tools does Qumuna provide?
Members can report discussion content for review by authorized community moderators and administrators. Those people can review reports, dismiss a report, remove content from view, and reinstate it when appropriate. Reports are a request for review, not an automatic finding that content breaks a rule. Read how discussions and moderation work together for the practical workflow.
How does access control work?
Communities can use named member, moderator, and administrator roles, as well as sub-communities and organisational units where their plan and configuration support them. Administrators should grant the least access that lets a person carry out their responsibility, review role changes, remove access when a role ends, and avoid shared accounts. Product controls help apply a community's decisions; they do not decide who should be admitted or trusted.
What should our community publish?
Before opening participation, publish conduct expectations, what can be reported, who reviews reports, possible actions, response times where you can realistically meet them, and an escalation route for urgent concerns. Explain when a member should contact local leadership, an appropriate safeguarding organization, or emergency services rather than wait for in-app moderation.
What does privacy information cover?
Use Qumuna's privacy policy for the current explanation of product data practices, and its child-safety standards and Do No Harm approach for related commitments and expectations. Communities should also decide what member information they collect, who may see it, how long they keep it, and which local laws, contracts, or policies apply. Do not post sensitive personal information to a broad audience without a clear need and suitable authority.
What Qumuna does not guarantee
No online service can guarantee that every harmful interaction is prevented, detected, reported, or resolved immediately. Qumuna does not replace emergency services, professional safeguarding advice, legal advice, or a community's responsibility to make and document its own decisions. Administrators should assess serious or time-sensitive situations using their local procedures rather than relying only on a platform report.
How can we use the tools responsibly?
Assign enough moderators, give them a shared written process, and review difficult cases consistently against published rules. Give members a private contact route when public discussion is not appropriate. Periodically review recurring reports for unclear expectations, access problems, or places where a policy needs improvement. The platform selection FAQ includes further questions about roles, reporting, privacy, and handover.
